Is Stone & Thistle a puppy mill?
Nope! Our whole family has Cairn Terriers, but we only have a few (one male and three females). We pride ourselves in being responsible breeders who not only take great care of our pets’ health but provide them with a loving, happy lifestyle.

What are your adoption fees?
The adoption fee for our puppies is the same for males and females. You can find the specific price details on our Puppies page. Please note that delivery costs are calculated separately and are explained below. All of our remote payments are made via PayPal, providing you with an extra layer of protection for peace of mind!

What do you look for in potential puppy owners?
We prefer to place our puppies in homes where the new owners have previous experience with dogs or other pets. However, if you’re a first-time pet owner and are willing to learn, we’d be happy to provide tips and resources to help you prepare. Additionally, we recommend homes with adequate space for the puppy to explore and play as it grows. Raising a puppy is a big responsibility, but it’s incredibly rewarding!

Do you have financing options?
Yes! We provide flexible payment plans through PayPal PayLater. This allows you to divide your payments into manageable installments. Simply select "PayLater," and it will walk you through the process!

How would my puppy be delivered?
Here are our three delivery methods:

1. Meet Us! ( $200 max )
​
If you live nearby or can travel to us, we’re happy to arrange a meet-up within two hours of our home. Common meeting spots include Kansas City’s MCI Airport or Des Moines’ DSM Airport. The fee covers travel expenses and our time. While this option doesn’t include a travel kennel, you’ll receive your puppy’s health records and a special goodie bag.

2. Flight Nanny ( $1050 - $1450 )
​
For families further away, we partner with our trusted flight nanny service that has successfully delivered puppies across the U.S. for over 20 years! Your puppy will travel in-cabin with the flight nanny, either in their lap or under the seat, and you'll get updates the whole way! Once at your local airport, the nanny will personally hand deliver your puppy at a convenient meeting place. This fee covers all related costs, including the nanny’s services, in-cabin ticket, travel to the airport, and health papers.

3. White-Glove Delivery ( $1500 - $3000 )

If you’d like the extra peace of mind of having one of us accompany your puppy, we offer a personal delivery service. We’ll bring your puppy directly to you—either to an airport near you or to your doorstep. Being located in the Midwest, our flight times are minimal to almost everywhere! Your puppy will travel in-cabin with someone they know, ensuring the most stress-free journey available. This fee covers all associated costs, including health documents, a travel kennel, and any pet tickets.

Do you provide a health guarantee?
Yes, we do! For detailed information about our health policies, please refer to our Health Guarantee.

Do your Cairn Terriers have known health issues?
Nope! We have spent decades selectively breeding our pets to have no known genetic issues. This takes a lot of long-term work and planning, but we have made every effort to ensure our bloodlines are healthy, happy, and bright!

Can I pick up my puppy in person?
Yes! If you’re able to visit our area, we can meet at a convenient location within a two-hour radius of our home, including Kansas City or Des Moines airports. The meet-up fee is $200 max, and we love the opportunity to meet our new puppy families in person!

Can you hold a puppy for me beyond 8 weeks of age?
We can hold a puppy until it’s 10 weeks old, but full payment must be made by the time the puppy turns 9 weeks of age. If payment is not received by that date, the deposit may be forfeited, and the puppy will become available to other families.

What kind of food do you feed the puppies?
We currently feed Purina Pro Plan High Protein Puppy Food DHA Lamb & Rice Formula. While there are other great options, we recommend transitioning gradually to any new food to avoid upsetting your puppy’s stomach if you decide to change this.

Are your puppies registered?
Yes! All of our puppies are registered with America’s Pet Registry, Inc. (APRI). Their pedigrees can be traced back for generations, reflecting the effort and care we’ve put into developing strong bloodlines!

Will my puppy come with any training?
Your puppy will have started basic crate training and will have learned not to potty in areas where they sleep or eat. However, they will still need consistent training in their new home and guidance to learn the difference between indoors and outdoors.

How much is the deposit to reserve a puppy?
To reserve a puppy, we require a $500 nonrefundable deposit. This deposit will go toward the total cost of the puppy and ensures that the puppy is held for you until pickup or delivery.

What are my options for making the final payment?
For in-person pickups, cash is the easiest and most cost-effective option! If you prefer to use PayPal, we can accept payments through their platform (with applicable transaction fees), no problem at all. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept personal checks or other electronic payment methods.
